Ruby Lounge closing down
MANCHESTER’S music scene will soon bid farewell to The Ruby Lounge to make way for a £79m city centre development.
The live music venue and club space, in the heart of Northern Quarter, has announced they will close their doors at the end of next year.
Plans to demolish the ‘unappealing’ and ‘unattractive’ building which housed the venue have been backed following a public consultation.
The dilapidated seven-storey block on High Street was one of the few remaining city centre buildings of its era not to have been redeveloped.
It’s most prominent tenant, The Ruby Lounge announced the closure on Facebook, siting differing views and ‘depths of wallets’ for the reason.
During its heyday, the venue hosted the likes of The Courteeners and Mumford and Sons.
