Bury set for a battle against Fleetwood

- By BETH COLLINSON

BURY need a draw in tonight’s EFL Trophy tie against Fleetwood Town to progress to the knock-out stage of the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Shakers welcome the League One side to Gigg Lane for the final Northern Group B game (7.45pm).

While Bury will be hoping for at least a point, they face a Fleetwood side who need a win to move on to the next round.

Group B winners Rochdale have already secured their place in the knock-out stage and, with only two teams progressing from each group, Bury and Fleetwood will be battling it out for the final spot.

Ryan Lowe’s men currently sit in third on three points, but goal difference means they need just one point to move above Leicester City’s U21s.

Whereas Fleetwood are bottom of the table having earned just one point so far, suffering a 2-0 loss to Rochdale in their last Group B game.

Fleetwood sit 22 positions ahead of The Shakers in the Football League, but Bury will be hoping to build on their 5-0 victory over Dover Athletic in the FA Cup last weekend to progress.

Bury manager Lowe (pictured) has been delighted with his team’s recent goalscoring form, and will hope they can continue that tonight.

He said: “It’s nice to score goals as the more times you score goals, the better chance you have of winning.”
