‘Take note train chiefs, your service is terrible...’

COMMUTERS vented their anger at their Northern train service by taping angry notes to the seats.

The stunt was spotted on the Buxton to Manchester line by traveller Garu Davies.

He was getting off at Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire when he realised dozens of pieces of paper were taped throughout the carriage.

‘Lower your ticket prices,’ read one.

Others said: ‘Your late cancelled, no lights, striking, 2 carriages in rush hour trains aren’t worth the ticket price,’ ‘I love paying Northern £60 to go get my education’ and ‘Your anxiety inducing trains aren’t worth the ticket price.’

Mr Davies thinks students who regularly use the line to get to college in the Stockport area are probably behind the mass protest. “It tickled me,” he said. “They’re right – it’s everything we’ve been saying about Northern for years.” According to Mr Davies, the line is regularly hit by cancellations and delays and usually overcrowded. At the moment, there is no Saturday service due to the ongoing strike action being taken by Northern staff. “If it’s two carriages, then it’s normally full by half-way and it’s standing room only,” he said. “If it’s a single carriage it’s like that by the time it gets to me and that’s only three stops from Buxton.” A spokesman for Northern said: “We would like to apologise to any customer who has suffered delays, cancellations or a reduction in carriages recently. “Autumn conditions have hit us hard recently. “Large numbers of leaves on the track, as well as other seasonal problems, can cause damage to train wheels. “When wheels are damaged it leads to wheel flats and the carriage has to be taken out of service and the wheel repaired before the problem becomes more serious.”
