Alexander: Ammies will keep focus

- NON-LEAGUE By TARAN DHAMRAIT

SALFORD City will not take winning for granted, according to boss Graham Alexander after his side won their 14th league game of the season.

The Ammies have the joint most wins in the National League alongside leaders Leyton Orient, with the two recording the most wins out of all teams in the top six tiers of English football this season.

Despite this, Alexander insists his team won’t become complacent as they look to win promotion to the Football League.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s visit to Chesterfield, he said: ‘’It’s great credit to the players’ discipline and focus, we don’t take winning for granted, I don’t think anyone should.

‘’I think every game that you win is something to be appreciated. It’s easy to take football for granted sometimes, certainly in good results, we don’t do that, we keep the players’ feet on the ground without detriment to their confidence.

‘’They are a great team, really efficient in what they do and they work exceptionally hard on the training pitch, you get the results on match day.

‘’We won’t take anything for granted, the previous 19-20 games will not win us the points in our next game.

‘’We defend as a team, if we ever don’t keep a clean sheet there are always issues throughout the whole team. It’s not just down to the back four and the goalkeeper, it’s about the team.

‘’It’s about making sure we do the job properly on the day and that’s what we will be focusing on in training this week.’’

Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Havant and Waterlooville was one to remember for midfielder Dennis Politic. The Bolton loanee scored his first goal for Salford after coming on for the injured Liam Nolan early on.

Alexander said: ‘’He showed some real good all-round ability, he’s got to learn a bit about the game management and doing the right things at the right time. He’s a talent and the goal wasn’t a surprise to anyone who’s trained with him and coached him because he’s got that ability.’’

CURZON ASHTON have been named the Football Supporters Federation Community Club of the Year.

“It’s lovely to be recognised nationally for the work that is ongoing in Tameside,” said Curzon’s community development manager Andy Cheshire.

“Hopefully we can continue to push on with our community outreach and development work and be of lasting benefit to our local community.”

Meanwhile, the Nash have appointed Will Ryder as first-team assistant manager to work with new boss Mark Bradshaw.

ALTRINCHAM have signed winger Ashley Hemmings on loan from AFC Fylde.
