Should you tip binmen?

WE asked readers what they thought about Christmas tipping and this is what people have been saying on our Facebook page

I do tip the bin men. It’s called ‘council tax’

Becky Taylor

No one tips me for working retail so I’m going to say no

Victoria Haworth

I think tipping should be abolished, put wages up instead. No working person should have to rely on someone else’s good will. And it stops the anxiety over how much it should be

Lynne Robinson

I’d tip my postal worker by going

to their house, not bothering to ring the doorbell, putting a card through their letterbox informing them that their tip was at their neighbour’s house

Paul Boland

Yes. I’d hate to work outdoors in all kind of weather’s day in day out. They trawl the streets till all hours. The older generations tipped without thought. I know it’s their job but still it’s tough out there.
