United win cup TV coverage

- By TYRONE MARSHALL

UNITED’S FA Cup third round tie with Reading has been selected for live TV coverage by BT Sport.

The Championship side – who yesterday sacked Paul Clement as manager – will visit Old Trafford on Saturday, January 5, with the game kicking-off at 12.30pm.

It is one of four live fixtures chosen by BT Sport, with the other three all featuring lower league teams facing Premier League opposition – Southport or Tranmere against Tottenham, Solihull Moors or Blackpool against Arsenal, and Woking facing Watford.

BBC Sport have chosen Newport or Wrexham against Leicester City and Wolves’ clash with Liverpool.

United’s run of 58 successive live televised FA Cup games came to an end in the third round last season when the Old Trafford tie with Derby County wasn’t screened.

That was a run stretching back 12 years, but all of the Reds’ other five FA Cup ties last season were live on TV and the clash with the Royals will mean 64 of their last 65 FA Cup fixtures have been live.
