Climate is not ‘an excuse’
RARELY have I read a letter as blind
to the evidence as the one headed ‘Climate is an excuse’ by D Bagnall
(Viewpoints, December 5).
The letter claims that climate change is a hoax conjured up by a group pushing for a world anti-capitalist government. In fact, every scientific authority is aware that the planet is heating up and that the climate is becoming unstable. This was first discovered by the Swedish scientist Arrhenius shortly before 1900 and his discovery was confirmed at Cambridge University in the 1930s.
Since the 1960s realisation of the likely consequences has been spreading.
Soon all cities on coasts and rivers will be at serious risk.
Sir David Attenborough is right to warn us. He has held up the red card to the UN.
We had better accept that there will be more people on a smaller area of land with more extreme and less foreseeable weather.
