Transport chiefs urged people to use public transport this week but this is what readers said on Facebook when it went wrong... It’s private transport not public transport, since everything was privatised it’s run at maximum profit with minimum cost and that’s the way it will continue to be until it’s re-nationalis­ed. Why run extra trains or pay extra staff when you can just give the CEO and directors massive bonuses instead?

Michael James Robinson Manchester... where within two miles or so there are two football stadiums, museums, an arena, convention centre plus Christmas markets... and the council makes the decision to half close two major routes out of the city centre then have the nerve to encourage people to use public transport when we possibly have the worst public transport infrastruc­ture out of the three big cities.

Steven Leigh This is because transport companies are run for a profit. It’s cheaper to squeeze as many people into one train/bus than it is to run two trains/buses at the same time and on the same route and give people that more comfort rather than images of the above.
