Salford win could see them head back to the top

- NON-LEAGUE By ALEX HENDLEY

SALFORD City could move back to the top of the National League over struggling Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium today.

Victory would move them above leaders Leyton Orient if Orient fail to win at Boreham Wood.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton have the short trip to Broadhurst Park to play FC United.

The Rebels occupy the final relegation spot and Curzon lie just four points ahead of them.

The away side are under new management following the sacking of John Flanagan, and Will Ryder will be desperate to get a positive result in his first game in charge.

Altrincham’s 2-1 win over Brackley Town last week means Phil Parkinson’s side are in full swing for their promotion push.

Today they face another top-of-the-table opponent in Telford United, and could make it 11 games unbeaten with a good performance at Moss Lane.

Stockport County will be looking to put their FA Cup defeat to Barnet behind them as they take on Chester at Edgeley Park.

The Hatters need to start closing the gap to the play-offs, and a result against the third-placed Blues would help them draw the leading pack nearer.

Ashton United will hope they do not suffer the same fate as their crosstown counterparts when they travel to Blyth Spartans today.

Curzon threw away a two-goal lead to lose at Croft Park in November, and a similar result for United would leave them in deep trouble.

They currently lie second bottom, with the worst defensive record in the league.
