Bury win ugly to go fourth

- By DAVID CROWTHER- GREEN

BURY manager Ryan Lowe praised the efforts of his side after their ‘ugly’ 2-0 victory over fellow promotion chasers Exeter City at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

The Shakers dominated the majority of the first half and opened the scoring five minutes before the whistle, when current League Two Player of the Month, Jay O’Shea, received the ball on the edge of the Exeter box and fired a wonderful effort into the top left corner.

The visitors were unable to convert a spot kick on 52 minutes thanks to a brilliant save from Joe Murphy.

The Grecians pushed for an equaliser in the second half but Lowe’s side then put any worries to bed when Byron Moore latched onto a long through ball, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net

The win sees Bury up to fourth in Sky Bet League Two, three points inside the play-offs before the derby away at Oldham.
