Lions pounce to claim Oscar
AFTER missing out the signature of Jarrod Sammut as dual-registration partners Wigan Warriors pulled off a late swoop, Swinton have been able to bring in international halfback Oscar Thomas.
The 24-year-old stand-off has agreed a two-year deal with the Lions following a season in the Betfred Championship with Sheffield Eagles.
A Scotland international who appeared at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, Thomas started his career with London Broncos, where he featured at Super League level, before a spell with Bradford Bulls and then Sheffield.
“After meeting with Oscar, he fit our mould of being a player keen to develop and learn, whilst also aiming to get back to producing his best football,” said coach Stuart Littler.
“Oscar can be a consistent performer with our club and if he can get back to playing his best rugby league, he will be a very valuable attribute to our organisation.
“I am looking forward to working with Oscar who will join our current internationals in returning to training this week.
“2019 is shaping up very nicely with the attitude and team ethos the boys are demonstrating in training.
“I feel adding Oscar will only supplement this as we strive to progress in 2019.”
Swinton have also strengthened their ranks with the additions of local youngsters Ashley Warne and Matty Ashton, both of whom have spent the pre-season on trial with the club.
