Arrest after pensioner carjacked

-

A BOY has been arrested after a frail pensioner was left with horrific injuries after being carjacked and dragged across a supermarket car park.

Police say the 17-year-old was detained following a dramatic chase involving Beryl Allsop’s stolen car.

Beryl, 79, was targeted as she made her way back to her car after shopping at Morrisons in Chadderton, Oldham.

She suffered serious head and facial cuts and is being treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary where she remains in a stable condition.

On Thursday night, her blue Vauxhall Astra was spotted by police in Oldham.

Officers signalled for it to pull over, but the driver failed to stop so officers gave chase.

During the chase, a woman was left with non-serious injuries after the Astra crashed into a stationary car on Abbey Hills Road.

The vehicle finally stopped on Neild Street, and four people inside jumped out and fled the scene.

Officers ran after them, and the police helicopter was also drafted in.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Halliwell Avenue a short time later on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody for questioning.
