IT’S already proved to be a popular event, and the Walking with The Snowman trail just got even better.

That’s because 47 little snowmen have now been added after they were decorated by schoolchildren and local groups.

Pupils from Salford schools are among the youngsters who have made their own designs for the sculptures.

The main trail, which opened on November 22, features 12 onemetre-high snowmen themed around ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ at the Lowry Outlet, The Lowry and the Open Centre at MediaCity UK.

Each one has been designed and decorated by one of 12 talented artists, all of whom painted a bee for the Bee in the City trail, which captured the hearts of Manchester’s residents and visitors this summer.

A free festive event, the snowman trail has been planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ heart-warming picture book The Snowman.

Now pupils from schools, including Buile Hill Arts College, Chatsworth High School, Primrose Hill Primary and Summerville Primary, have created their own designs as part of a learning programme

The children’s snowmen are on display for a bit longer than the big ones – until January 13.

The main trail runs until January 6 and while the bigger ones will be auctioned off for Children In Need, the smaller sculptures will be returned to the schools that created them as a lasting legacy.

The Open Centre is playing host to craft sessions to coincide with the trail, where children can make either a snowman snowglobe, snowdog lantern, or paint a Christmas tree bauble.

Activities, taking place in Penelope’s cafe, last from half an hour to an hour and cost from £12.

Sessions are running between
