‘Drink could be the end of Peter’

-

CORONATION Street actor Chris Gascoyne has sensationally revealed how he would like his long-serving character Peter Barlow to be killed off.

Chris, who has played recovering alcoholic Peter in the soap since 2000, says Peter should drink himself to death over a period of two years.

He thinks this would be the right ending to conclude the story of Peter, whose drinking has affected his relationships with loved-ones including his father Ken, teenage son Simon and his ex-wives Leanne Battersby and Carla Connor.

Peter has recently kept his drinking under control, even last Christmas when it appear he might waver when he discovered that vicar Billy Mayhew was responsible for the death of his twin sister Susan and drove him to the edge of a cliff.

He added: “It would be a brilliant story to play out. I would love it. If they wanted to say ‘look we’ll run this storyline’ or ‘we need to move on’ that would be fine I would like to do that because it sort of ties the whole thing up.

“I’m not wanting to leave. I love it at the moment. I’ve had a brilliant twoand-a-half years back.

“I’m not chucking it in immediately, it could be five or 10 years but that I think is how I’d like to play that story out. I’d love to play it.”

Peter has been reunited this year with Carla, played by Alison King.

And this Christmas he’s touched to receive a gift from his ex in the shape of a
