VOLUNTEER TO HELP THE HOMELESS
The homeless crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing our city, and in winter those sleeping rough need our help more than ever.
Our mayor, Andy Burnham, has placed homelessness at the top of his agenda, pledging to end rough sleeping by 2020.
This year saw the mayor and Manchester City star, Vincent Kompany, launch ‘Tackle4MCR’ with the Blues skipper donating all profits from his testimonial season to help the city’s homeless.
There are lots of things you can do to help immediately.
Soup kitchens desperately need an extra pair of hands, and there are lots of organisations who will be supporting the homeless on Christmas Day itself.
Three centres will be open on December 25, offering hot festive food.
The Wellspring in Stockport supports disadvantaged, homeless and vulnerable people 365 days a year.
Christmas is even busier than usual and on December 25 they try to provide full Christmas dinners and a gift to as many people in need as they can.
By donating just £5, you can help volunteers make their Christmas lunch happen.
Anything extra will be used to provide essential services to people in need over the rest of the year.
