Bury face the Dons in promotion clash

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

BURY will aim to make it four wins in a row in all competitions when they face fellow promotion chasers MK Dons at Gigg Lane later today.

The Shakers produced a stunning second-half performance at Accrington in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday as they came back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 thanks to a brace from Dominic Telford and goals from Nicky Maynard and Danny Mayor.

Last weekend’s win over Yeovil lifted Ryan Lowe’s men into the League Two automatic promotion places for the first time this season and they welcome both of the league’s top two to Gigg Lane over the next fortnight.

Today’s opponents sit just one point above Bury in second, but currently have two games in hand and have not played at all since their 6-0 demolition of Cambridge United on New Year’s Day.

Karl Robinson’s side also have the league’s best defensive record so far this season, conceding just 19 times in 25 games, but will face the highest scorers today, with Bury’s tally standing at 49.

A late Ousseynou Cissé goal was enough to separate the two sides when they last met in August, as The Dons secured a 1-0 home win at Stadium MK.

“We’re in a good position at the moment and the lads know that, but the hard work is staying there and not getting too carried away,” said Lowe.

A win for Bury would see them leapfrog their opponents into second in League Two.
