Po­lice ar­rest man af­ter car smash

A MAN has been ar­rested af­ter a BMW smashed into a bus stop in dur­ing a po­lice pur­suit.

The crash took place near McDon­ald’s on the A6 Lon­don Road in Hazel Grove, Stock­port.

It hap­pened af­ter Cheshire Po­lice be­gan pur­su­ing a black BMW 630i in Poyn­ton when the driver failed to stop.

The chase led into Hazel Grove, where the BMW lost con­trol and crashed into a bus shel­ter.

Pic­tures of the in­ci­dent showed a badly dam­aged bus shel­ter and BMW.

Po­lice at the scene say no one was in­jured and there was no one at the bus stop at the time – just af­ter noon on Satur­day.

Gas en­gi­neers were also called af­ter of­fi­cers could smell gas af­ter ar­riv­ing and McDon­ald’s was closed.

Paul Shall­cross, who runs Shall­cross Ve­hi­cle So­lu­tions on Lon­don Road, told the M.E.N: “I heard all these sirens and went to take a look.

“They’ve cor­doned off the whole road for quite a dis­tance and there’s fire en­gines and am­bu­lances there.”

Po­lice are now ap­peal­ing for dash­cam footage of the in­ci­dent.
