Fire team to investigate blaze at Ivy
EXPERTS are trying to establish exactly why a blaze broke out at Manchester’s Ivy restaurant.
The Fire Investigation Team from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has been deployed to produce a report on the incident.
The M.E.N. understands the purpose of the move is to establish the precise cause and assess whether it has risk implications for other establishments, such as restaurants and pubs.
A senior source has told the M.E.N. that the initial 999 call from the restaurant said that the fire was linked to heaters used on the fourth floor terrace where the fire started.
The terrace also had plants, soft furnishings, and fire pits.
Billed on the restaurant website as ‘The Ivy Roof Garden’ it remains closed and is scheduled to re-open at the end of next month.
Crews were called to the Spinningfields eatery at around 5pm on January 4.
Four fire engines were scrambled to the scene. Firefighters used an aerial platform to tackle flames from above.
The restaurant re-opened within 24 hours of the incident and all the other three floors are operating as normal.
