Driver is quizzed over motorway fall horror
POLICE investigating the death of a woman who fell from a bridge on the M56 have been speaking to a driver of car that collided with her.
The woman died after the tragedy near junction 4 of the motorway at 7.30pm on Thursday.
Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a collision involving a Grey Honda CRV, a blue VW Golf MK 7 and a pedestrian on the motorway.
The woman fell from the Simonsway Bridge which runs above the carriageway.
Emergency services raced to the scene but the woman, who GMP say is believed to be in her 30s, died at the scene.
The driver of the Golf has now been traced and is assisting police with their inquiries.
Closures were in place on the westbound carriageway for several hours while investigation work was carried out.
They spanned from junction two, the A560 Altrincham Road in Sharston, to junction five, near Manchester Airport.
Pc Martin Davies, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident where a woman has lost her life and we are doing everything we can to piece together what happened.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed her approach the carriageway or the Simonsway Bridge over the M56, as well as people with dash-cam footage.”
