Knifeman is arrested

POLICE arrested a knifeman after a scuffle on a busy tram.

The drama unfolded in Trafford at around 3.40pm on Saturday.

Officers were called to the Altrincham Metrolink stop after reports of a man with a knife.

They located the suspect on board a tram and said “following a brief struggle” he was arrested.

The man’s age has not been disclosed.

There were a number of people on the tram at the time, and although not divulging any further details, police moved to reassure the public it was an ‘isolated incident.’

GMP’s Trafford South division said on their Facebook page: “Trafford South Police were called to Altrincham Metrolink Station after reports of a male with a knife.

“On arrival, officers located a male onboard a tram. Following a brief struggle, he was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.”
