Knife­man is ar­rested

PO­LICE ar­rested a knife­man af­ter a scuf­fle on a busy tram.

The drama un­folded in Trafford at around 3.40pm on Satur­day.

Of­fi­cers were called to the Al­trin­cham Metrolink stop af­ter re­ports of a man with a knife.

They lo­cated the sus­pect on board a tram and said “fol­low­ing a brief strug­gle” he was ar­rested.

The man’s age has not been dis­closed.

There were a num­ber of peo­ple on the tram at the time, and al­though not di­vulging any fur­ther de­tails, po­lice moved to re­as­sure the pub­lic it was an ‘iso­lated in­ci­dent.’

GMP’s Trafford South di­vi­sion said on their Face­book page: “Trafford South Po­lice were called to Al­trin­cham Metrolink Sta­tion af­ter re­ports of a male with a knife.

“On ar­rival, of­fi­cers lo­cated a male on­board a tram. Fol­low­ing a brief strug­gle, he was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of pos­sess­ing an of­fen­sive weapon.”
