FAMILY’S TRIBUTE TO BOY, 11, WHO DIED AFTER HE WAS HIT BY CAR

THE grief-stricken family of an 11-yearold boy, who died after he was hit by a car, have released a photograph of him taken on his first day of high school – as they paid touching tribute to their ‘angel.’

In a statement released through police, the family of Taylor Schofield spoke of a ‘cheeky, handsome lad’ who loved his friends and United. They described Taylor as bright, intelligent, loving and caring, and said he was always smiling.

The family tribute was released as police confirmed a man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, after the incident in Beswick, was still being questioned in custody last night.

The photograph shows a smiling Taylor, who went to Droylsden Academy secondary school, standing proudly in his school uniform.

Taylor’s family said: “Taylor was a cheeky handsome lad who loved his mates, football and Man United.

“He was a very bright, intelligent, loving and caring kid – always smiling, making jokes.

“He’s going to be missed by every- one. He was taken too soon from us. Our angel always.”

Police, meanwhile, have vowed to ‘leave no stone unturned.’

Pc Karl Horner, from GMP’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “Our thoughts continue to be with Taylor’s family, I cannot imagine what they must be going through. Our specialist support officers have been with them today and we will continue to help them in whatever way we can.

“A 31-year-old man is still in custody and we are continuing our questioning. We will leave no stone unturned in order to give Taylor’s family the answers they deserve.”

Tributes to the schoolboy are being left near to the scene of the tragic incident on Albert Street, near City’s Etihad Stadium.

The tragedy occurred at around 6.10pm on Saturday.

Taylor was struck by a grey Volkswagen Golf close to The Townley Pub. The car did not stop at the scene, police said. Taylor was rushed to hospital after the collision, but he sadly died later from his injuries, GMP said. Bunches of flowers are being left near the scene in his memory. One note said: “R.I.P Taylor. Gone too soon.” A VW Golf - believed to have been the involved in the crash – was found abandoned near to the scene later. The 31-year-old man later attended a police station and was arrested. Albert Street was closed between Charlestown Street and Darley Street. Doric Close was also closed for accident investigation work.
