Belief puts striker in form of his life, says goal legend

- By DAN O’TOOLE

MARCUS Rashford is in the form of his life at United because he now has a manager who believes in him, according to the Premier League’s record goalscorer, Alan Shearer.

Rashford netted United’s winner in the 1-0 victory over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon with a wonderfully-taken strike on the stroke of half-time.

It was the England forward’s fourth goal in six games under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the 21-year-old taking his tally to eight for the season.

“Marcus Rashford is flying right now because he has a manager with complete belief in him for the first time,” the former England captain said.

“Nobody has ever doubted his ability but he has finally been set free under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – and it is great to watch.

“Rashford is the main man at Manchester United now and has every attribute in his locker to thrive as a striker going forward.

“His movement is excellent and constantly improving, he has the pace to terrify any defence and his finishing has come on leaps and bounds.

“It was a world-class pass from Paul Pogba to set him up and the strike from Rashford shows just how confident he is right now.”

Rashford was in and out of the United team under former manager Jose Mourinho, who oversaw the Reds’ worst start to a league season since 1990 before being sacked.
