‘Bright, bubbly’ teenager in station tragedy

-

THE parents of a teenage girl who died after being struck by a train have paid tribute to their ‘bright and bubbly’ daughter.

Aaliyah Johnson, 17, died following the tragedy at East Didsbury station last month.

Emergency services scrambled to the south Manchester station on Tuesday, December 11, at around 7.40pm.

Aaliyah was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement released by British Transport Police, the teenager’s family said: “On Tuesday, December 11, we lost our Aaliyah in tragic circumstances.

“Aaliyah was a bright and bubbly character, who made so many people’s lives better for just being a part of it.

“She was loved by many and always lived her life to the fullest – going on her own little adventures, seeing the artists she loved perform and when she wanted to, loved spending time with family as well as friends.

“At this time, we, as the family, would appreciate if we were given the time to grieve properly.

“We would ask for people and the press to respect our privacy and allow us the space to find strength in these circumstances.”

Aaliyah’s family has asked for donations to be made to Young Minds – a charity that supports young people with mental health problems.
