Storm fly to impressive double victory

- ICE HOCKEY

MANCHESTER Storm had a maximum point win weekend with wins at Nottingham Panthers (3-0) and at home to Fife Flyers (7-4).

Beating big-spending Nottingham in their own arena was a great start to the weekend and in doing so Storm recorded a double over the Panthers having beaten them last weekend in Altrincham.

Ciaran Long (2) and Dallas Ehrhardt scored the goals for Storm, but man of the match was netminder Matt Ginn, who saved 30 Panthers shots in an incredible performance between the pipes.

The team had then prepare for Fife Flyers and although Storm gave away an early goal with two players sat in penalty box, they recovered to put in one of their best shifts of the season.

Goals from Ehrhardt (2), Auger (2), Byers, Linsmayer and Poulin got the goals for Storm which delighted head coach Ryan Finnerty.

He said: “We are in a good place right now, we are scoring goals from anywhere and everywhere at the moment and the team are all working hard for one another.”

The double point win moved Storm above Sheffield Steelers in the table and with three games this week (Guildford at home tonight, Coventry away on Saturday followed by Coventry at home on Sunday).

Another good week could see the Storm climb into mid-table respectability and, more importantly, into the play-off places.
