Salford boss expecting no more arrivals to follow two new recruits

SALFORD City Manager Graham Alexander has hinted he does not expect to make any further additions in the remainder of the January transfer window.

The Ammies, who sit second in the National League, have already made two acquisitions to strengthen their squad.

Forward Matt Green, 32, arrived from Lincoln City on a two-and-a-half-year deal, while versatile full-back Joe Muscatt, 21, has joined on a month-long loan from Bolton Wanderers.

Green, who has won promotion from the fifth tier on two occasions, has netted twice in his last three outings for Salford, with Muscatt making his debut in Saturday’s FA Trophy victory over Dagenham and Redbridge.

Asked if he expects any imminent arrivals, Alexander said: “Not at the moment, no. We brought Joe (Muscatt) in to compete in the full-back slots and Matt (Green) to help the strikers, so we’ve got ample ammunition up front.

“We feel that we’ve got the basis of a good squad that can see us through to the end of the season.

“But, we’re always trying to improve the team if we can and need to be aware of injuries and suspensions.”

Midfielders Gus Mafuta and Lois Maynard have both been side-lined through injury, but this weekend’s performance versus Dagenham has offered Alexander reassurances about his squad depth.

He added: “If the squad stays the same from now until the end of the season and everyone stays fit, we’ll be happy because we feel we’ve got good competition for places throughout the team.”
