CITY SPECIAL Jesus happy to be Blues’ port of call...

- By STUART BRENNAN

GABRIEL Jesus thinks he had a lucky escape after colliding with a post in City’s win over Wolves on Monday night.

The Blues striker hurtled in to try to get on the end of a Kyle Walker cross and score his second goal of the night, but ended up smashing into the post instead.

Wolves defenders instantly waved for urgent help, and the game stopped as City medical staff rushed to his aid.

But after a few moments of treatment, Jesus was back on his feet – and went on to score a penalty and produce a man of the match performance in the 3-0 win which cut Liverpool’s lead at the top back to four points.

It looked like the Brazil star’s head had collided with the woodwork, but he revealed afterwards that it was not so bad.

“It was my neck,” he said. “If it had been my head it would have been more dangerous but I am OK, just a little bump.”

His two goals took Jesus’ tally to seven in his last three games, doubling his tally for the season to 14.

Perhaps more importantly, the goals have restored his rocky confidence, and he looked sharper, slicker and more dangerous.

It means City now have two topclass strikers firing for the second half of the season with Sergio Aguero scoring in his last two games, including the stunning opener against Liverpool.

With Benjamin Mendy close to a return, Guardiola will again have the option of pairing Aguero and Jesus in a 3-5-2 formation, an important one to have at his disposal.

Jesus has played second fiddle to Aguero for most of the season, but he says everyone is focussed on chasing down leaders Liverpool.

“It’s the first time I have scored so many so I am so happy, but everyone played well,” he said.

“It’s very important to score goals – I am feeling good and my confidence is better for scoring goals.

“We are second in the Premier League and want to win it. We need to go onto the pitch in every single game and win it,” he said. “We need help to do that, because the Premier League is the most difficult league in the world. “Everyone is fit now and wants to play. It’s amazing, because you want to play but are happy for who is playing. “We have amazing players and it’s difficult for the manager to pick players to play. “I don’t know the last time a club won it two times (on the bounce). It was 2009? It’s a long time, so difficult, but we will try to keep going and win the title. “The Brazilian league is difficult but Premier League is the most difficult in the world. “We believe in every single game, and every competition – we are training and working a lot for the moment when they give out the title at the end of the season. “We need to keep going, working hard and playing well, if we want it to be us.”
