PSG star wary of United threat after winning run

KYLIAN Mbappe is wary of the threat posed by United ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League round-of-16 games against the Reds next month.

United have been resurgent since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho on December 19, winning each of their six games, and have reduced the gap to the Premier League’s top four from 11 points to six.

Mbappe’s France team-mate Paul Pogba has rediscovered his World Cup-winning form, and Mbappe believes United are now a force to be reckoned with.

“I think Manchester United is always a top side,” Mbappe told sport24 at PSG’s winter training camp in Doha.

“It’s not easy to play any team in the Champions League, we are going to do our best.”

Mbappe’s PSG colleague Edinson Cavani concurred, adding that the change in manager had handed the Reds a new lease of life.

“I think, after the departure of Jose Mourinho, Manchester United has a new energy,” Cavani told the same publication.

“They have started to win matches and have more continuity.”

But the Uruguay international insists PSG will not focus too much on the threat United will pose in the tie.

“We have to think of ourselves and not the other teams,” the 31-year-old told Goal. “We have to think about what we have to do as a team.”
