IGNORE THEM!

PEP TELLS CITY PLAYERS NOT TO BOTHER LOOKING AT LIVERPOOL’S FIXTURES IN TITLE RUN-IN

- By SIMON BAJKOWSKI

PEP Guardiola has instructed his City players not to look at Liverpool’s fixtures as both teams hunt for the Premier League trophy.

Monday’s 3-0 win over Wolves closed the gap back to four points at the top of the table, backing up the crucial 2-1 win over the league leaders at the beginning of the year.

But Jurgen Klopp’s men showed at Brighton at the weekend they are made of stern stuff themselves, raising the prospect of a lengthy slog between the two rivals for the trophy. After his previous experiences as a manager, the former Barcelona and Bayern manager has told his team to ignore everything to do with Liverpool’s fixtures in order to minimise their chances of slipping up.

“I don’t have a magician’s ball to discover when we’re going to lose points,” he said.

“I don’t know and I said to the [players] don’t watch the calendar for the Liverpool games, forget about it.

“Normally when this happens you then lose your own games, in my experience.

“It distracts from what you have to do and then it’s over. The best way is to look at the next game – Huddersfield with a new manager. What can you do to beat them?

“If you win [your] games and Liverpool win then I will congratulate Jurgen because it will be well deserved. All we can do is be there and feel we are there and win our games.”
