THE 1975 HEADING BACK HOME
MANCHESTER band The 1975 are returning to the Manchester Arena on Thursday with their A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships tour. The tour, in support of their third studio album, is made up of 11 UK and Ireland arena shows, including two nights at London’s The O2.
The four-piece will then head overseas for dozens of shows across North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America and Asia.
Made up of Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald and George Daniel, the band members first met at Wilmslow High School before releasing their self-titled debut album in 2013.
It soared straight to number one in the UK – and so did their two subsequent albums.
They’re famed for their synth-heavy take on 80s pop rock and have achieved remarkable success in the US, Canada and Australia as well as back here on home turf.
They’re due to release their fourth album, Notes on a Conditional Form, in May, barely seven months after their most recent release.
The 1975 won a Brit Award for British Group in 2017, and are nominated for both British Group and British Album of the Year in this year’s awards.
Here’s some essential information ahead of their Manchester Arena show next week:
First support act Manchester group Pale Waves are destined for big things - as well as supporting The 1975 on this tour, they’ll be back to support Courteeners at their huge Heaton Park gig as well as playing Neighbourhood Weekender.
When CityLife spoke to Liam Fray of Courteeners about Pale Waves supporting them, he said: “I was walking through Manchester recently and saw teenage girls on separate occasions dressing like Heather [Baron-Gracie, lead singer of Pale Waves]. That means you’re connecting.
“She was a rock star before they’d even put a single out.”
The indie rockers released their debut album My Mind Makes Noises in September last year, reaching the top 10 of the UK albums chart.
Last year they also won an NME Under the Radar Award and were nominated for Best Video for their single Television Romance.
Based in Manila in the Philippines, second support act No Rome is a singer and producer whose music is modern and catchy.
He released his debut EP RIP Indo Hisashi in August last year, featuring tracks Saint Laurent, Narcissist, Do It Again and Seventeen.
He’s good pals with The 1975, collaborating with them on his single Narcissist, with Matty Healy popping up in the music video.
