Difficult to enforce fines
IN the letter, ‘Way to raise revenue’
(M.E.N. February 8), the writer cites that those who park their car, fully or partially, on pavements, should be automatically fined.
Whilst I have sympathy with this opinion, it really is not practical. Our post-war estates were not designed to accommodate the number of vehicles that use the roads these days.
I live in a cul-de-sac. If that were the rule, emergency vehicles would not be able to navigate the drive. Hence, that a “blind eye” is turned to pavement parking.
However, it should be measurable. Those who do not allow sufficient passing space for wheelchairs and prams, should be fined. A space width limit should be set.
It is a shame that there does not appear to be a way to address those people who park on the pavement but, due to thoughtlessness / selfishness, refuse to park on their own empty drives.
