Dave insists PSG are the favourites in Euro clash

DAVID De Gea insists Paris Saint-Germain are favourites to beat United in their last-16 Champions League tie.

The Reds head into tonight’s first leg at Old Trafford against the Ligue 1 leaders in fine form, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer winning 10 of 11 games as caretaker manager.

The build-up to the tie hasn’t been as smooth in Paris, with Thomas Tuchel losing Neymar for both legs to a foot injury, while Edinson Cavani limped out of the 1-0 win against Bordeaux on Saturday with a thigh injury and will miss the first leg at least.

That has swung the pendulum in United’s favour, but De Gea believes PSG remain favourites.

“It will be a very intense match, a great match to play, very special,” he said.

“PSG is a great team with some of the best players in the world. They are the favourites. But we will be very motivated. We all want to play this particular match and win it.

“On this kind of match, it’s the small details that make the difference. It will be very tight. I hope these details will work in our favour.”

While the loss of Neymar is a boost to United, De Gea is disappointed he is unable to play.

“It pains me that he is not there, that such a player cannot play such an important encounter for him, the audience and the show,” he said.

“It’s a shame. But I believe, that even though he’s a very special player, they have a lot of other players who can replace him, dangerous and very high level.”
