A BIKER was rammed off the road minutes before masked men attempted to smash a woman’s car windows as she waited at traffic lights on the same country lane.

Detectives believe the incidents in Tameside are linked.

Both happened on the border of Droylsden and Ashton-underLyne, close to the M60 bridge.

One woman was driving along Lumb Lane near where it becomes Newmarket Road, at 11.15pm, when she stopped at roadworks.

A car approached in the opposite direction and pulled up alongside.

The victim told the M.E.N. a man got out with his face covered, carrying a baseball bat. He swung it at her windows but they didn’t smash.

The man then tried grabbing the door handles, but the woman managed to drive off, mounting the pavement to escape.

She called police who stayed on the phone to her until she reached a police station. The woman said the others inside the car were also masked.

It was the second ‘attempted robbery’ reported that night.

Minutes earlier, a motorcyclist was rammed at the same set of lights and approached by four men in balaclavas carrying bats.

GMP said neither victim was seriously injured.
