Road opens after 3m litres of water cleared
THREE million litres of water were pumped from the flooded A555 airport link road, council bosses have revealed.
The road re-opened on Monday night after more than a month’s-worth of rain fell on Greater Manchester on Saturday.
Highways bosses at Stockport council say faulty pumps which led to the flood between the Chester Road roundabout and the A34 near Bramhall have been repaired.
In a statement, the council said: “The A555 is now open to all traffic. It’s estimated that approximately 3m litres of water were pumped from the road in order to re-open.
“Once again, we would like to thank everyone for the patience shown during the disruptions the flooding caused over the past few days.”
On Monday the M.E.N. reported how firefighters rescued drivers who became stranded in the flood after ignoring the road closure.
In a statement on Facebook Poynton fire station said: “Our crews are currently in attendance at the A555 bypass responding to a person stuck in a car in flood water.
“The male has been escorted from his vehicle. The road remains closed in both directions.
“Please don’t drive through ‘road closed’ signs and move bollards.”
