Tributes paid to mum after stabbing horror
A WOMAN who was stabbed to death has been named locally as mother Debbie Twist.
Police were called to Manchester Road, Leigh, by paramedics just before 8pm on Sunday.
A woman in her 40s was found dead having been stabbed, the force said.
Formal identification is yet to take place. The victim has been named locally as Ms Twist.
Officers remained at the scene throughout Monday, carrying out searches of a house.
Forensic teams were also seen carrying out fingertip searches of a nearby area of grassland.
In a statement Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
A woman, 37, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Floral tributes were left at the scene on Manchester Road throughout the day.
Residents described what happened as ‘a nightmare.’
One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “My son came home and told me he heard a loud noise.
“He thought someone had been broken into. I came out of the house with him.
“It’s terrible. I went back in to ring an ambulance.
“It was terrible, just awful. I’ve been watching the police all day. “It’s a nightmare.” Supt Jon Chadwick, of GMP’s major investigations team, said: “We have now made two arrests in connection with this terrible incident. We will continue to support the lady’s family at this unimaginably difficult time.
“We’re determined to give them the answers they deserve and we’re appealing for the public’s help to do this.
“Were you in the area at the time of the offence or have any information that can assist us? Don’t hesitate to call officers if so.
“We have two police scenes in place and people in Leigh will notice an increased police presence over the coming days.
“If you have any concerns, or would like to speak to our officers, they will be happy to talk to you.”
