Extra ‘road’ tax is stupid

-

IF lorries, vans and taxis have to pay up to a £100 for the congestion charge, this is a punitive charge on tax (M.E.N., February 28).

If they refuse to come into Manchester, hotels, restaurants, bars, even the town hall will not be able to function. How will they get their goods in? Manchester will come to a halt, and lose money.

If they do pay and come in then that will make no difference to the pollution, defeating the object.

Who knows for certain how many people are dying as everybody does not have a post-mortem?

A plumber cannot carry everything he needs to work on a bike or a bus. This stupid idea could force many people out of work.

Is this what Andy Burnham wants to do? His salary is safe, not like the workers.

What he needs to do is make the councils put the roads back to two lanes so that traffic keeps moving. T Preston, Prestwich
