Man dies after ‘injuries’

POLICE are investigat­ing the death of a man in Swinton who suffered ‘injuries’ on Friday night.

Witnesses reported a major response from police and the ambulance service around 8pm.

A man was seen being given CPR on Dudley Road before being taken away in an ambulance.

In a statement issued yesterday morning, Greater Manchester Police said the man sadly died in hospital.

An investigat­ion into the circumstan­ces surroundin­g his death are being investigat­ed.

It is not yet clear if the death is being treated as suspicious or not.

Police said they were called by the ambulance service over reports of a man that had ‘sustained injuries’.

The corner of Station Road and Dudley Road has remained cordoned off by police.

Officers appear to be carrying out investigat­ions inside a first-floor flat while detectives were going door-to-door last night.

One witness said: “We came home last night and all the police were there.

“They were giving the man CPR before they took him off.

“It’s always kicking off there - we’ve been woken up by people screaming and fighting before.”

A police investigat­ion continues.

GMP said in a statement: “Shortly before 8pm on Friday, 20 September, police were called by the ambulance service to Station Road, Swinton regarding reports that a man had sustained injuries.

“Despite best efforts of emergency services staff, the man sadly later died in hospital.

“GMP officers attended the scene and the circumstan­ces around the death are currently being investigat­ed.”
