Two-try pair are Sale cup heroes

SALE got their Premiershi­p Rugby Cup campaign off to te perfect start with a 39-18 win over Northampto­n.

Simon Hammersley and Chris Ashton both scored a pair of tries in the victory.

Elsewhere, Rotimi Segun scored a pair of tries as last season’s finalists Saracens beat Wasps 50-28.

Manu Vunipola and Segun put Sarries in control with two early tries before Tommy Taylor responded for the hosts.

Elliott Obatoyinbo extended Saracens’ advantage but Alex Rieder ensured Wasps stayed in touch and Thibaud Flament’s converted try reduced the lead to four points.

But two penalties from Tom Whiteley and further tries for Segun and Charlie Watson took Sarries well clear.

Callum Sirker earned Wasps a try bonus point before Nick Tompkins wrapped it up.

Worcester ran in seven tries on their way to a 57-23 victory over Leicester.

Tries from Perry Humphreys, Isaac Miller, Caleb Montgomery and Alex Harle secured the bonus-point for Warriors before half-time and Ashley Beck, Farai Mudariki and Jamie Shillcock went over after the break.

The Tigers scored tries through Andy Forsyth and Johnny McPhillips.

Tom Hendrickso­n’s two tries inspired Exeter to a 28-14 win over Bath at Sandy Park.

Tom Wyatt also went in for the Chiefs with Barry Karea’s score securing the bonus point. Levi Davis and Chris Cook grabbed tries for Bath.

London Irish ran in seven tries with scrum-half Scott Steele scoring a hat-trick to help the Exiles beat Gloucester 49-29.
