Maamria: Latics must build on win

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

OLDHAM head coach Dino Maamria says his side must build on last weekend’s result if they are to keep moving up the table.

The new Latics boss made the perfect start to life at Boundary Park by beating Morecambe 3-1 last Saturday and will be looking to make it two wins from two when they travel to Carlisle United today.

Although Maamria was happy with his first victory, he believes that his side must continue to improve gradually game by game.

He said: “We take it one game at a time, I’ve been at this level long enough to know that if you turn up and do what you’re supposed to do then you win games.

“We’ve got to put our foot on the gas and accelerate, moving forward and have a process on where we improve in certain areas.

“We just want to tweak certain things defensively out of possession and try to improve set pieces.”

Carlisle have experienced a similar start to the Latics this season, sitting two places above them in 18th with 11 points from their first 10 games, and Steven Pressley’s side come into today’s game without a win in their last three in all competitions.

And with that poor run of form, Maamria believes it is the perfect time to be facing the Cumbrians.

“I think we’re going at the right time, we’re in a brilliant position, so it’s a good game to be going into,” added the Latics boss.

“Obviously, they’re a good team, they have a good manager and it’s always a tough place to go.

“It’s a beautiful pitch this time of the year, a big pitch which suits our players and I am really looking forward to it.”

Three points for Oldham could see them up to as high as 13th in the League Two table.
