Rollout of life-saving devices at stations
SOME of Manchester’s busiest train stations are to be equipped with defibrillators as part of a regional rollout.
All 19 TransPennine Express-managed stations across the north of England and Scotland, including Manchester Airport and Stalybridge will be equipped with at least one of the life-saving devices.
The busiest stations will be equipped with more than one.
All 44 of the company’s latest Nova fleets of trains will also have defibrillators installed onboard.
Defibrillators are used on people suffering cardiac arrest, delivering an electric shock to help restore a stable rhythm of the heart.
Every minute without effective CPR - and the use of a defibrillator - can reduce the chances of survival by 10 per cent.
As part of the Rail Station Alliance, defibrillators will be installed at all Greater Manchester train stations.
Stations including Eccles, Wigan Wallgate, Levenshulme and Romiley have been part of an initial wave of the rollout.
Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester, said: ”I am delighted to see the introduction of defibrillators across many of Greater Manchester’s rail stations. As I know from personal experience these devices really do save lives.
Charlie French, accessibility and integration manager at TransPennine Express said: ”We are very happy to be able to provide a defibrillator at the majority of our stations as well as on-board our upcoming Nova trains.”
