Clumsiness is catching, jokes Strictly’s Mike
STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Mike Bushell has joked that dance partner Katya Jones has become accident prone since teaming up with him for the BBC dance show.
The Salford-based BBC sports presenter has spoken out about Katya’s shock fall during their Magic Mike theme performance on Saturday night’s live show, saying his clumsiness is ‘rubbing off on her.’ Mike, who fell into a swimming pool wearing a sound pack at the Commonwealth Games last year, says that since training with him she’s crashed her car and accidentally hit him in the face.
He joked: “She is worried because I’m known for being a bit clumsy after falling into a swimming pool at the Commonweath Games. And since she’s started training with me she’s crashed her car, not seriously, but into a hedge - the car was damaged.
“She’s also hit me with a stick, hit me in the face and now fell over on the dance floor.
“So she’s worried my clumsiness is now rubbing off on her.”
The Russian dancer was close to taking them both down during the routine to It’s Raining Men when she made a grab for Mike’s tie as she slipped on the dancefloor.
As she landed Katya swivelled around and styled the fall into a dance move, leaving Mike to perform a move they named ‘the dolphin.’
Mike said about the moment: “It was very surprising, because she pushed me away like she was meant to and then I was meant to get into the zone for the glitter coming down and doing my socalled dolphin. And then suddenly as I was peeling away I saw her fall over. She tried to grab hold of my tie and if she had got hold of my tie I might have gone down as well.
“I almost stopped to say, ‘are you OK?’ and she just screamed ‘carry on, go back, go back and she styled it out.’”
Katya has since confirmed on Twitter that a second fall, as they ran up the stairs to chat to host Claudia Winkleman, was on purpose.
The dancer assured fans she was fine and not drunk as some viewers had speculated.
