STAR KATIE’S GRIEF OVER CORRIE DEATH

-

CORONATION Street star Katie McGlynn says she feels like she’s grieving after filming her character Sinead Osbourne’s final moments.

Katie, who has been applauded for her portrayal of young mum and newlywed Sinead, says she and costar Rob Mallard used humour to cope in between filming the harrowing storyline.

It took two weeks to film the heartbreaking bedroom scenes as an ailing Sinead says goodbye to her loved ones.

She told us: “When we were filming, we could quite easily get into fits of laughter in order to get through it, because it was very sad.

“When we were doing it we had to take a minute and go outside or some air and then we were just laughing about something stupid because that’s our humour.

“I think it probably has affected me but like Rob says I’m probably still working through it.

“You’ve got to take yourself to places that are not very nice.

“I’ve recently felt really sad and I actually feel like I’m grieving, you know like Rob says where you just get waves of sadness.”

Rob, who plays Daniel, explained:

“During that two weeks we were in there it was almost impossible not to carry it home.

“It just kept coming in waves. It’s like when someone dies and you have a moment of levity and then you remember that someone’s died and it all comes back.

“Because we’d spent every day together, suddenly then to have you not there was more realistic to play it on because I’d been with her every day for weeks. It felt more like it was real.

“And I’m still carrying on the story.”

Katie added: “You can’t switch off really. You’ve got to tap into those emotions to get yourself there so I, when we were there, just felt like it was real from start to finish.

“So when you home you can’t really switch off.

“For my life personally how it’s changed, I don’t want to be cheesy but I don’t take life for granted as much I guess.

“I’ve been a bit more emotional with my friends and family, as in more caring and loving.

“I don’t really cry at anything and Rob doesn’t.”

Rob said: “I’m from Oldham, she’s from Littleborough.

“Growing up watching sad storylines at my house, if you cried you would get the p*** taken out of you so, so much. So you had to sit there and just not let it show.”

Katie, 26, who has played Sinead since 2013, has had meetings and auditions for new acting roles after leaving the famous cobbles.

Sinead was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year while she was pregnant and temporarily stopped her treatment as she was worried it would harm her unborn child.

She found out her cancer had returned on her wedding day and had spread to her lymph nodes and liver.

Sinead’s final goodbye will be screened tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
