Phil’s full of hope Robins will fly up league table

- By CONNOR WHITLEY

ALTRINCHAM manager Phil Parkinson is not worried about his side’s position in the National League North despite them sitting in 18th, just two points above the relegation places.

The Robins overturned the form book to beat top-of-thetable York City in the FA Cup on Sunday, earning them a second round tie away to Portsmouth.

And Parkinson says he has faith in his methods that took the Robins to the play-off semi-finals last season.

“We’re only two points away from where we were last year, so we’ve had almost an identical start,” said the Alty boss.

“I truly believe we will climb the league if we can keep everybody on the pitch and get that bit of luck.

“I’m certainly not panicking I can see on the pitch we’re functioning as we should be.

“At this point last year people would not be happy but would be expecting this position but because we finished so well last season, finishing in the play-offs and as top-scorers, expectations go up.”

Altrincham’s top scorer Jordan Hulme echoes his manager’s thoughts. He said: “We’re getting there. We’re not new to this league any more. Every team knows what we’re about.

“We’ve still got faith in what we do. It’ll come – I’m confident in the lads.”

Altrincham’s cup run means they have games in hand over some of the teams around them in the league. And assistant manager Neil Sorvel believes the win at Bootham Crescent can only have a positive impact.

He said: “Hopefully we can go on a bit of a run, we’re three or four games behind most of the other teams, if we can win those games, we’ll get ourselves in and around the play-off positions.”
