City centre is nothing for us to be proud of

Manchester Evening News - - LETTERS, COMMENTS AND EMAILS -

I COULD not agree more with ‘Puzzled, Beswick’ (Viewpoints, November 7).

As a Mancunian, I am also puzzled at the praise of Manchester.

Do they never walk through Piccadilly Gardens (although it ceased to be ‘gardens’ long ago) and see the muddy grass, the drug dealers, the alcoholics, the rubbish?

And don’t get me started on that horrendous wall – at least they pulled the Berlin Wall down!

The walk into Manchester from Beswick and Ancoats is nothing but street after street full of rubbish, overgrown weeds and trees spilling onto pavements.

Why do a lot of other cities here and abroad seem to be so much cleaner?

The Labour council has been in charge of this city for decades.

For the city centre to still look so scruffy and miserable is a disgrace, not to mention the surrounding streets.

I have long since given up on it looking any better. Another muggins council tax payer
