TWO men injured in a shooting may have been the victims of a drive-by attack.

Both suffered gunshot wounds to the lower leg and ankle in Cheetham Hill. One was aged 20 and the other 18.

The M.E.N. understands both men presented themselves at hospital after the incident.

The shooting was on one of Manchester’s busiest roads in the middle of the afternoon.

Police confirmed both men suffered serious injuries in the attack at 2.30pm on Friday on Cheetham Hill Road.

One source told the M.E.N: “A group of young men were outside a restaurant when a car has gone past and people inside it have opened fire. The two victims were shot in the lower limbs. It is thought a hand gun was used.”

It is thought a grey coloured car may have been involved.

One witness said there had been an argument between a group of seven or eight teenagers in the middle of Cheetham Hill Road.

The man, who declined to be named, described how one of the injured men managed to hobble away down the side of The Godfather Cafe along Copthall Lane along with other members of the group.

He said he didn’t see where the second man was shot.

He said about seven or eight youths, aged 15 or 16 were arguing before the shooting.

Speaking of the victim he saw, he said: “He doesn’t fall. He’s limping and running away. They all ran away down the side of The Godfather Cafe. At first people don’t know it’s been a shooting. People think it’s fireworks. They don’t know it’s gunshots. There’s a cashand-carry and there were a lot of people shopping.”

The man, who admitted he did not call police, said it was ‘maybe an hour’ before police arrived.

A worker from a nearby shop said: “I heard ‘pop, pop, pop.’ I thought it was fireworks. It was only when the police arrived I realised it was shots.”

Detectives have also appealed to the public for help and anyone with information is asked to call officers on 0161 856 1146 quoting incident number 1574 of 15/11/19.
