Iddon’s ‘over the moon’ to join PBM Ducati for 2020 season
STOCKPORT’S Christian Iddon has signed up to ride for Britain’s most successful motorcycle racing team, PBM Ducati, for the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
The Penrith-based squad has won seven BSB titles, including the 2019 crown with riders Scott Redding and Josh Brookes, who will partner Iddon.
Brookes said: “For Christian, I think joining the team is a great opportunity for him.
“As a rival I recognise his potential and I believe the team can supply everything needed to bring him to the front and be a championship contender.”
PBM team owner Paul Bird added: “Christian has suffered nothing but bad luck in recent seasons, so this is his best chance.
“The opposition have seen what we can do with a raw rookie in Scott Redding so with two very experienced riders on board, we are hopeful of continuing our success with Ducati in BSB.”
Iddon will ride a factorybacked PBM Ducati V4 R for a crack at the 2020 Championship after claiming Riders’ Cup honours in 2019, despite suffering a broken leg, and the Stepping Hill-born former Supermoto Champion is relishing the opportunity.
He said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be joining seventimes champions PBM, they absolutely have the credentials. I’m fully aware that all of this paddock and pretty much every other paddock would have been knocking their door down trying to get that seat.
“I’m a big advocate that hard work pays off. Results haven’t been as I’d hoped for over the last few seasons, but this to me is a result, and this is hopefully the start of good things to come, I absolutely plan to grab this opportunity with both hands and make the most of it.”
