BEST OF THE REST
RAY DONOVAN SKY ATLANTIC, 9PM
IT’S a different Ray we find as this seventh series starts. He’s still played by the dishy and charismatic Liev Schreiber, don’t worry about that, but these days Ray is clearly trying to change his ways.
Instead of working as a fixer for his firm’s wealthy celebrity clients, he’s trying to fix himself. He’s still in therapy, which means lots of scenes with Dr Amiot (the wonderful Alan Alda), but it also means digging up a lot of pain. Most of which revolves around his dodgy dad Mickey (Jon Voight).
But if Ray wants to be a better father himself he’s going to have to come to terms with every horrible thing that’s happened in his past, and try a bit of forgiveness too.
These changes won’t happen overnight though, clearly demonstrated when we see Ray punch a man square in the face. He does go back and apologise though…
JOHNSON V CORBYN: THE ITV DEBATE ITV, 8PM
WE should probably be excited at the prospect of this. With a general election looming, here’s the Prime Minister debating the Leader of the Opposition.
It’s chance to see the two men who are vying to lead our nation up close, as they impress us with their rectitude and conviction, and set out their inspiring plans to heal our divided nation.
It’s just not going to happen though, is it?
Not in the strange political hellscape we find ourselves in these days. We can already see how it will play out: Boris ruffling his hair and cracking ‘jokes’ in what he thinks is an endearing ‘man of the people just winging it’ kind of way.
Jeremy coming out with damning facts and diatribes, whilst rigidly and inflexibly sticking to his position, without necessarily declaring exactly what that is.
Deep sigh.
