Jealous ex knifed love rival in front of toddler

A KNIFEMAN consumed with jealousy launched a ‘horrendous’ ‘coldblooded’ attack on a man he thought had slept with his ex-partner.

Liam Burke, 30, has been jailed for 30 years for attempted murder after stabbing the man three times in front of the victim’s two-yearold daughter.

Alcohol-fuelled Burke was caught after he threw a bottle of Budweiser into some woodland while he was on his way to try and kill the man.

Police recovered the bottle, which contained his fingerprints.

Jailing Burke, of Broadway, New Moston, Judge Richard Mansell QC told him: “You could simply not allow her to have any man in her life.

“This was therefore a coldblooded, premeditated and concerted effort by you to kill him, consumed as you were by jealousy and anger towards her,.”

Burke had been separated from his ex for more than two years. But he demanded that she give him the man’s number.

Burke was able to find the man’s Facebook account, cross-referencing it with Google Earth to learn where he lived.

Arriving at the man’s home in Blackley, Manchester, Burke spent about 40 minutes ‘lying in wait’ for him.

As the man was putting his daughter in her car seat, Burke struck from behind.

The victim suffered severe, lifethreatening physical injuries, as well as serious psychological harm.

Burke was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted after a trial at Manchester Crown Court.
