Salford are keen to leave defeat behind

-

GRAHAM Alexander says his Salford side are itching to get back on the pitch after their midweek FA Cup defeat to Burton Albion.

The Ammies boss was left frustrated with the 4-1 scoreline on Wednesday night and will be looking for an improved performance against Macclesfield at the Peninsula Stadium today.

“I think when you come off the back of a defeat you want to get out back on the pitch as quickly as possible and I know the players are itching to do that, so we’re looking forward to the game,” said Alexander.

“Our league form has been pretty good the last couple of months, so it’s an important game for us. We want to put on a performance and hopefully win the game.

“For a good 60-65 minutes I thought we were well in the game and playing well, so the players know that, and we need to extend that performance with the cutting edge on Saturday.”

Following ongoing financial issues behind the scenes, today’s opponents are struggling on the pitch and are without a win in their last five games in all competitions, including a 4-0 home defeat to seventh-tier Kingstonian in the FA Cup on November 10.

However despite the Silkmen’s current off field problems, Alexander is still expecting good attendance from both sides at the Peninsula.

He said: “When you see the attendances, the away attendances for our home games, they’ve been high and I think they’ve created a real good atmosphere inside Moor Lane and I think our supporters respond to that atmosphere.

“I thought the supporters on Tuesday were magnificent in their support, you could hear them and see them all the game through from minute one all the way through until the end.

“I would expect Macclesfield to bring a lot like other teams have and create a similar atmosphere to what we’ve had recently.”
