Jesse turned down arch rivals to sign up for Reds
JESSE Lingard has revealed he turned down interest from Liverpool and City in order to sign for United.
The 26-year-old says a number of teams were aiming to secure his signature prior to joining the Reds.
Lingard signed for United at the age of nine and has gone on to win the FA Cup, Europa League and
League Cup during his time at Old Trafford – as well as well as 24 caps for the senior England national team.
Things could have been much different, however, with Lingard revealing two of United’s biggest rivals were interested in signing him.
“It was left down to me to pick a club and I felt United were best suited to me personally,” he told Manchester United’s official podcast.
“[Manchester] City, Liverpool, Everton and I think Crewe at the time [were interested in me].
“I have a picture in a United kit when I was one-year-old. When I was seven I had trials and signed when I was nine.” Lingard also commentated on his clothing brand, ‘JLingz’, and revealed fans would think he’s quite boring if they knew what happened after training.
He added: “People think I’m involved in everything but I don’t pack the [clothes] and send them on! If you came home with me, you’d just think I’m boring. I just watch Netflix all day.”
