DECEMBER 2: Protesting nurses bring a wet and rainy Peter Street to a standstill after attending a gathering at Albert Hall. The march, which passed the Theatre Royal on the way to the Town Hall, formed part of an ongoing protest over salary scales and working conditions.

It was the days before disposable syringes, heart monitors and computers. Bedpans had to be cleaned and used from patient to patient.
